Annoying keystrokes problem in VMWare

November 19th, 2006

While working with a Linux virtual machine, an annoying error keeps flashing past on the console:

Unknown key pressed

Sometimes it even prevents me from logging into the system.

At first, I thought it might be just a problem with this specific flavor of Linux. But the error just kept coming back even after changing to other Linux distributions.

After a bit of Google searching I located a blog article here, describing the same problem and it was caused by the Microsoft Wireless Keyboard I am using!

To solve this problem, two commands are needed to reset the extra keystrokes scancodes to blank:

setkeycodes e001 125
setkeycodes e059 126

The coming of Nikon D40?

November 10th, 2006

nikon D40
I have had my D50 for a while and loved it, and you know what? It appears that Nikon is going to release a new budget digital SLR camera: D40!

Photos and specifications have been leaked to a few websites including this one: KenRockwell.

The entry price for the D40 would be around $500 (body only), which sounds incredibly attractive for people who’d like to get great photos and don’t mind carrying a large camera around (like me). Anyway, let’s see how this rumor turns out.

MSN Sync 2.0 released by priv!

October 28th, 2006

UPDATE on 10/29/2006: That’s a quick update! priv finished a 2.1 version and added the feature to delete the corresponding Live Spaces post when the original WordPress post was deleted!
A new version of the MSN Sync WordPress Plugin has just been released by priv.

The new 2.0 version promised a great feature: any modifications of a published post in WordPress will be automatically updated to your MSN Live Spaces. The previous version of the plugin had the bug of posting both the original and modified posts on Live Spaces.

Great job, priv!

Sync your WordPress with MSN Live Spaces

October 15th, 2006

A lot of Chinese friends are using MSN Live Spaces (the blog service from Microsoft). Everytime they update their blogs, there will be a nice little star like this (MSN Gleam) next to their names in MSN Messenger. It would be fantastic if I could keep them updated with new entries in this blog in the same way.

After spending some time Googling, I found this blog, priv (in Chinese),with an enhanced MSN Sync plugin for WordPress (download it here). When you are posting a new entry on your WordPress blog, this plugin can make use of MSN Spaces XML-RPC API to post the same or customized contents on your MSN Space. How cool is that! Now I can have a MSN Gleam for my WordPress blog in my MSN Messenger!
